  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile and moisture retentive

An interesting and unusual substitute for true spinach, especially in summer when it tolerates dry conditions far better. The prolific scrambling plants produce a dense ground cover of fleshy green leaves which can be cooked and eaten just like spinach. Pick the tender, richly-flavoured shoot tips as often as you like and it'll keep coming back for more.

  • Growing Instructions:Sow in trays of dampened seed compost in spring, potting on seedlings as they grow and hardening off carefully to plant out 45cm apart once all threat of frost has passed. Alternatively wait till later in the season and sow direct into shallow drills, thinning seedlings to 45cm between plants. Soak seeds for 12 hours before sowing to help them germinate. They are very slow to come up so be patient.

  • Sow: March-May

  • Harvest: May-July

  • Approximate quantity: 50 seeds.
