- Position: full sun
- Soil: fertile, well drained, moisture-retentive and firm
Very reliable and quick to produce its compact, pointed heads of crisp green leaves in early summer. The heads are densely-packed and full of flavour, and there's very little wastage on outer leaves, making this a good-value summer crop. Extend the season with early and late sowings and you can harvest them well into autumn and as spring greens too.
- Growing Instructions:Sow early into seed trays under cover, potting on seedlings as they grow, or in spring sow direct into a well-prepared seedbed in shallow drills 1.5cm deep, thinning seedlings to 15cm apart. Plant out into growing sites when plants are 15cm tall, spacing about 45cm apart. Protect from slugs and net against pigeons. Firming young cabbage plants in well when transplanting helps them form big, beefy hearts.
