Plant description

Create a year-round carpet of lush foliage using these pretty plants which will flourish in partially shaded positions near the front of a border, or in hard to fill spots underneath trees and shrubs.

What's included:

In this collection you will receive one of each of the following plants. They are all supplied in 9cm nursery pots:

  • Polypodium vulgare: A native of Britain, and as such is one of the most versatile for our climate, being content in most soils, damp or dry, as long as it has some shade. It has long, leathery, dark green fronds with a slight sheen, and an attractive, lacy appearance. Grows to 30cm.

  • Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae: A compact spreading euphorbia that has a long-lasting, lime-green flowers in late spring above rosettes of glossy, dark green leaves. A valuable plant for difficult areas of dry shade, it looks really good in a woodland setting. Grows to 70cm.

  • Bergenia cordifolia 'Purpurea':The red-flushed, rippled foliage of this large elephant’s ears can grow up to 30cm long and will turn attractive shades of rich purple throughout the winter, especially when grown in poorer soils. In late winter and early spring, tall red stems carry clusters of cerise pink flowers. Grows to 60cm.

  • Liriope muscari: An extremely useful plant, which will tolerate a range of conditions including dry shade and drought. Dark green, blade-like leaves provide year-round interest and in autumn, just as other flowers are beginning to fade, vibrant, long-lasting wands of deep violet flowers rise above the foliage. Grows to 40cm.

Planting tips:

Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost when planting. Protect young plants from slug-damage using environmentally friendly slug pellets or beer traps and keep them well watered until they are well established.
